After given the authority by his pastor Reverend Dawson started The Street Ministry of Swainsboro, Georgia. This ministry was a success and addressed the revitalization of the African American Community that he grew up in. Reverend Dawson addressed head on drug addiction, drug dealers selling drugs from the streets, prostitution, youth behavior problems, and assistance for the elderly.

After working with the street ministry, Reverend Dawson became pastor of Solomon Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church of Vidalia, Georgia where he served as pastor for four years. God gave him a vision to provide personal care for the elderly and he founded Dawson's Tender Loving Care Personal care Home of Wadley, Georgia, in memory of his grandmother Mrs. Gertrude Dawson who raised him after his mother's death. The business is a joint operation of Reverend Dawson and First Lady Sabrina Dawson.

In August of 2006 God gave Reverend W. J. Dawson a vision to take his ministry to a higher level. He founded the W. J. Dawson ministry to fulfill the ministry God gave him. W. J. Dawson Ministry is non-denominational and is housed at 235 Cedar Street Wadley, Georgia.
